Donald Draper, is what the envelope has to say. Nothing else. He flips it on its back, slits it open. Stops putting off pouring a drink.

Baedal traced in different hands. Lines that surge bold through Howl Barrow drain by Chimer into scratches; alleys and groves detailed as flourishes, scribbles, amputee triangles. The fog dissipated, no longer a malevolent swirl.

He folds it up, hands working quick and sloppy. It has the feel of paper but more elasticity, gives like whatever's caving in his chest.

He goes to find a steering wheel to spread the map over. The door slams after him.

Night's descending when he returns—not drunk but looking it, the sway of the El in his gait, city on him like a stench, eyes slipping past her to the window. “Calls?”

Strange events tend to go unnoticed in Baedal, compared to the much stranger things happening around them. People don't tend to be noticed when they go missing, either. The city takes these things in stride. After all, people get called back to their homeworld all the time, or they die. Everyone knows this.

Still, rumors start cropping up around the city about the sudden appearance of twelve identical towers positioned around the city like the face of a clock...

party post ✶ now i'm ready for the last hurrah, dying like a shooting star

Who: EVERYONE.
What: A swanky party.
When: Sukkardi, 8 PM to the wee hours of the morning.
Where: Gibeah, Jack's new house in Syriac Well.

Jack wasn't kidding about inviting half of Syriac Well. He may in fact have invited all of Syriac well but is only expecting half to show up. Still, it's his first chance to impress the people who will, with any luck, someday become his constituents. That goes for Syriac Well and the new cohort. (He doesn't plan to stop at city councilor, after all.) But, one step at a time. He hasn't even announced his candidacy yet; first, he has to meet the neighbors.

And so the house is done up with no expense spared, although care has been taken not to look too over the top. Syriac Well is upper middle class, and that means appreciating the finer things but perhaps not appreciating snobbery. There are servants, but not too many, and guests in fabulous gowns, but no shortage of cocktail-length dresses either. No one is turned away. The lights are hung, the food is served, and music wafts through the building. It's time for a party.

As night falls on Baedal, the city is almost quiet. The streets have a few last minute workers returning home, but by now, most citizens have already gone by the temples and picked up their vurt, ready to lay down and dream.

After placing a not-feather in one's mouth, there's a moment where it fizzes against the tongue before sliding coolly down the back of the throat and pulling the user down into sleep. A series of impressions, more sensation than anything concrete, appears before the user and this is how one chooses which Dreamer to enter.

On this block in Canker Wedge, in a gap between buildings so slight the wind holds its breath to squeeze through, stairs rise from nowhere. A glowing railing corkscrews into the sky in a silver strand. The first step clangs metallic underfoot; as Don sets his hand on the railing its light fades then begins to pulsate. The climb isn't as steep, doesn't last as long as it should. It feels like flipping forward in a book.

At the top is a star-flecked night blanketing a distant city. For a while he drinks in the view; for a while it offers the same soothing burn as a glass of whiskey. Then he makes his way between the two long counters reaching for the bar. Heat blooms in unexpected pockets along the way: it's warmer up here than it is inside.

He orders a drink and as he waits realizes there's no music playing.

Where: The Vault, various boutiques, restaurants, gay clubs, out on the street, anywhere at all. If you can think of somewhere to be, Irene is quite possibly there.
When: Here all week, baby.
Notes: Just pick where you're setting it and say when/where they are in the header. It needn't be somewhere mentioned here! If you think they could run into each other elsewhere, then go ahead- and if you think it ought to be an arranged meeting rather than a chance one, then that's probably fine too.

When: AHAHAHA...the distant past? (Although not 1960s distant.) I blame LJ.

A five-minute walk from the river, the Alameda's ash-gray brick and glass on the outside. There are structures in Baedal precarious as poses struck by dancers, buildings with no visible supports, that look to have been strung up on a wish. This isn't one of them: you don't doubt that if your hand smacks into the wall it'll scrape off some of the skin.

Inside music plays low; conversation's conducted in intent murmurs. Though the tables are packed in tightly, it doesn't feel cramped or crowded. Everyone here knows their business, where it begins and ends.

Warnings: Cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide.

Malfoy had given him a name, a location; there he gets a few more names, days to try the bazaar and rough descriptions of vendors. Shops sell parts and machines that can be cannibalized. He sifts through boxes of scrap, one day runs across a Marlin hood ornament that's been turned into a necklace. Along the way a man with skin that crumbles like rotting leaves fingers the puckered scar at his chin and mentions the lot.

Don keeps track of all this himself. He likes maintaining the truck: it's absorbing work, and the results are right there for him to see. It's good to know it's waiting out there in the barn.

He enters Tinker's Lot for the first time with a list in his back pocket and a hand-drawn map he has to show someone to make sure it's oriented the right way. The place is parts and more parts scattered into the distance, corpses of vehicles that have been picked clean, looming contraptions that move with alarming unpredictability. He hates to gawk, but he has no choice as he picks his way through the yard.

He catches a hint of motor oil in the air.

Notes: :9 let us make cr and deliciousness! We can just go from any point of their drinking together, too - just do whatever tickles your fancy, really.

It's been a long week. A long month, two months, however many hours and days and other little bunches of times have all clocked up to however long things have been utterly miserable for. And ever since she got here, Jules has been going on with her masks and her smiles, until this week things started to teeter and fall apart like a rusted-out engine.

She could work with car problems, though. This she didn't know how to work with, and she stares at the bottom of her glass as she swirls the deep red wine around it, accusing, as if it's meant to be telling her something and very thoroughly letting her down.

"I need another drink."

Aimery was grateful it was his night off; it hadn't been a particularly eventful week, but he tired of being on his best behavior and looked forward to an evening where he could relax, have a few drinks, and feel like less of a boring old man with nothing in his life but a job. Around sunset he changed out of his suits and into black slacks and a dark red sweater, with a scarlet scarf about his neck for when he eventually unbuttoned the sweater later in the evening, and swapped out the jewelry in his piercings for ones that were shinier, less discreet.

Before he headed out though, he made one last round of the house, checking that there was nothing else that needed putting away or tidying up.

Costume Party in Honor of Lex Luthor's Birthday [OPEN]

As stated on the invitation, Adrian is throwing a costume party to celebrate Lex's twenty-fifth birthday at the Luthor-Veidt Building in Brock Marsh. Everyone is welcome, whether they know Lex or not. There's plenty of food and free alcohol (mostly wine, fancy beer, and champagne), music and a space for dancing, and room to mingle and make new friends. Some simple and classy decorations, purple of course, have been put up on the first and second floors to create a festive atmosphere.

(A note to those who might try to take the opportunity to go snooping: security is insanely tight. The elevators will not go beyond the first and second floors without a special code, and there's an elevator operator who is very obviously there to make sure you don't try anything funny. The stairwells are likewise under guard and the private areas of the first floor are locked and under camera surveillance.)

A Rally in Support of the Hungry Few

Who: The City
What: A Rally in Support of Cruorvores.
Where: Mercer's Square, Aspic
When: AT A CLEVER TIME
Notes: Everyone is welcome, including curious neutrals. NPCs available on request. OOC post.
Warnings: A general spirit of solidarity may be present.

Word has been spreading over the network and on the street. Leaflets have been available at open minded public houses and restaurants. A few of the city's more prominent inhabitants have organized a rally to show support for cruorvore citizens. It is going to be a public event; sanctioned, the leaflet assures, by the state. Speeches will be made, the true colours of the city will be shown. There is a lot of talk about standing up to the sowers of discord.

As the evening of the rally approaches, more and more people gather in the square. All sorts have come out for the event, xenians, humans and people who defy categorization mingle peacefully. A cat watches the proceedings from on top the stage has been erected to one end. The stage has been draped in banners promoting tolerance and acceptance, and small sign near the bottom proclaims it was built with the kind donations from Bloody Sunday, The Zygoda, Howl's Market and certain private citizens, of which there is a list. Some attendees have brought instruments and casually strike up a tune every now and then. Others have brought food, signs or torches as the rally promises to continue well into the night.
